Homeland Security Partners has worked for several resident companies in The Tech Garden. This business incubator, sponsored by the Great Syracuse Chamber of Commerce, provides early-stage and mid-size technology companies with a competitive edge in the form of strategic relationships and connections in other parts of the state.
We performed a 3 month contract for the Department of Defense Commercialization Assistance Program (DoD CAP), assisting two computer software companies with homeland security/cyber security and commercial applications to move toward commercialization and partnering with large system integrators. Janya, Incorporated's software provides improved situational awareness by analyzing a multitude of data sources. Architecture Technology Corp.'s (ATC-NY) software offers 24/7 remote access cyber security training, and "a computer in a computer" capabilities to be virtual machines for true to life exercises.
We also executed a 3 month contract for the Clean Tech Center to assist GreenView Energy Management Systems with business development to establish the firm in the marketplace. It has hardware and software to monitor energy usage in commercial and industrial buildings and recommend a variety of energy saving measures.
Grain Communications Group, Inc. (Sarasota, FL) is a developer, owner and manager of cell towers throughout the country. The company is unique because it concentrates on the government market and is well capitalized, having the ability to build (on contract), own and manage towers.
Homeland Security Partners has an ongoing contract with Grain which began in August 2009. Following the fall 2009 failure of New York's emergency management communications for first responders, Grain sought to fill the gap. We created a strategy to realize this goal, and we're helping them carry it out now. Together, we find opportunities to work with New York State counties in building the new "network of networks."
Nutwell Logistics, Limited (United Kingdom) offers a unique, dignified, and efficient solution for hospitals with limited morgue capacity when faced with a pandemic, battlefield evacuation of the deceased, or incident management when responding to a terrorist attack. When Nutwell needed help securing placement on the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) procurement schedule in order to enter the U.S. marketplace, they came to us.
In partnership with Catalyst Partners. LLC (Washington, DC), we established a proper GSA schedule for placement (overcoming Nutwell's lack of a track record in the U.S.), identified assembly/manufacturing partners, and developed a nationwide distribution strategy.

Prepared a "100 Day Plan" that evaluates the regional political, economic and business environment. The Plan laid out a regional strategy on how to best support Federal clients in the areas of homeland security, information technology, health care and transportation, as well as engage with New York State and industry partners.
The Center for Economic Growth (CEG) is a private, not-for-profit, membership-based economic and business development organization that serves the 11-county Capital Region of New York State. The Watervliet Innovation Center is the CEG's state-of-the-art technology and business accelerator, focused on homeland and national security technology companies.
The Center for Economic Growth retained us to identify new sources of public and private funding and assist selected companies in this business accelerator to advance toward commercialization. We were successful in having 5 companies reviewed by Booz Allen Hamilton’s “Petting Zoo”, to evaluate their technology and marketability.

2-1-1 is an easy-to-remember number to call when you need help or access to human services. Like 9-1-1 for emergencies, 2-1-1 provides direct, personal and professional assistance for human services.
This network, affiliated with the United Way of New York State, was due to expend all its funding by August 2009 and go out of business. We pursued continuing funding from state government but also reached out to new, untapped funding sources such as homeland security (emergency management/disaster response), counseling for financial institutions whose customers were threatened with mortgage foreclosure and private foundation funding.
