Homeland Security Industry Background

The homeland security industry was given birth by the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks on the United States. In March 2003, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) was created, consolidating 22 federal agencies with 180,000 employees into one entity. This was the largest restructuring of the federal government since the creation of the Department of Defense in 1947.

This massive structure, with agencies with separate and distinct missions, has enormous responsibilities including protecting not only our borders, airport, ports, and transportation facilities, but also our food system, water supplies, and cyber networks. To name just a few incidents and lessons learned… Hurricane Katrina, commercial airline surface–to–air assaults, the terrorist bombings of the London underground & mass transit, Madrid train bombings and numerous threats, DHS has to be prepared to detect, prevent, respond to and recover from similar incidents.

The path to solutions to these threats/problems has been evolving and often radically changing direction. It is a complex, technologically challenging, and politically- influenced and diverse path to solutions. Companies need guidance to achieve success and Homeland Security Partners, LLC can help lead the way.
